The children are all grown up......

I spent the afternoon with my son today. We went to dinner and to coffee afterwards. We chatted about everything; Canada, food, gay men, traveling, kids, and dating. I realized while I was listening to him, what a nice person he turned out to be. Whether I am responsible for any of that is beyond me, but I am very happy with the kind of person he is.
I have noticed with both of my kids lately, that they are maturing into kind, funny, thoughtful people.
Through all the years of trials I have had with them both, I often wondered how it would all turn out in the end.
They have both been through alot with me, and it feels good to know they didn't end up hating me.
The relationship with your kids is one of the most important relationships you will ever have in your life, and I'm happy to know that I have come full circle with mine to a place of mutual respect and love.
I don't know if it's in spite of the way they were raised, or because of the way they were raised, or if they just figured things out on their own. I have a feeling with those two, that it was more that latter.
It was a good day though.

I have also heard it said the children grow up in spite of their parents. There probably is some truth to this. However, I'm sure a neglected child has a lot harder time making it in this world than one who was loved. Congrats to you JB, you certainly do have two great kids. We surely have been on the receiving end of their kindness and unconditional love. I'm excited to witness the growth of my own beautiful childern and look forward to watching them become adults (not to fast though).
